Did you know that in 2008-2009…
- There are 30 organizations, including school systems, community action agencies and universities that operate Head Start and Early Head Start programs in Georgia
- Head Start services are provided to children and families in 157 out of 159 counties in Georgia
- In 2008-2009, the actual enrollment in Head Start and Early Head Start programs was 27,552. This number consisted of:
Regular Head Start:
- 56 five-year-old children;
- 14,239 three-year- old children; and
- 11,670 four-year -old children
Early Head Start:
- 1,587 children younger than three-years old.
- Nearly 76% of teachers have an Associate or Baccalaureate in early childhood education
- Nearly 74% of assistant teachers have a CDA (Child Development Associate) or Associate in early childhood education
- Approximately 3500 children were enrolled in blended Head Start/Georgia Pre-K programs*
- 22,683 Head Start children's immunizations were up-to-date
- 2,797 Head Start children received medical treatment following screening
- 324 children received mental health services
- 26,710 children received continuous, accessible dental care
- 4,959 children received special education or related services for a disability
- 321 homeless families were served by Head Start
