The Georgia Head Start Association, Inc. (GHSA) is a statewide non-profit organization with the mission to provide education, leadership and advocacy that supports Head Start programs’ efforts in delivering high quality comprehensive services to Georgia’ to enhance the capability of local Head Start programs to deliver quality comprehensive services to children and their families. GHSA represents the 31 Head Start and Early Head Start agencies in the state of Georgia that provide these services to over 25,000 low-income preschool children birth through five-years-old and their families.
The GHSA is governed by an elected President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Parliamentarian and the Board of Directors. The Governing Board of the Association is comprised is four (4) representatives from each local Head Start program – these representatives are the Head Start Director, a staff member, a parent representative, and a friend of the respective Head Start agency. The Management Committee of the Georgia Head Start Association is comprised of the elected officers and two representatives each from Head Start Directors, Staff, Parents and Friends, as well as representatives from the Region IV Head Start Association. The GHSA Board of Directors meets bi-monthly, from September through May of each school year.
There are currently 11 Standing Committees of the Georgia Head Start Association, each staffed by a Chairperson and representatives from local Head Start programs. The Committees are: 1) Marketing and Public Relations; 2) Membership; 3) Professional Development; 4) Training and Technical Assistance; 5) Transportation; 6) Technology; 7) Finance/ Fund-Raising; 8) By-Laws/ Nominations; 9) Issues/ Advocacy and Legislative Committee; 10) Awards and Scholarships, and 11) Resource.
The Georgia Head Start Association is a member of the the Region IV Head Start Association.
