We received a very kind and warm welcome from the Congressman. His staff directed us to a large room where all of our classroom murals could be displayed. He took the time to listen to our talking points while his staff assisted with taking photos of the activity. He assured me that he had special plans for displaying the art work of our children. Reggie Castleberry, Constituent Service Representative for Congressman Barrow advised me that he was going to post the photos taken today on Representative John Barrow’s Internet Page.
In addition to the Hands In Head Start murals Lee Aycock, Education Coordinator, presented the Congressman with a framed photo of the children and teachers with their art work. The framed photo also contained Susie D. Wilcher’s business card with contact information. An invitation was extended to Representative Barrow to visit our Head Start Centers located in his district so he could observe the wonderful comprehensive services provided in education, health, and support services to our children and families. The congressman was advised that our program has been serving the children and families in the communities in the 12th District for over 39 years.
All 388 children in our Head Start program were represented in the mural.
He wanted to know the number of children we served and the name of the counties where our program administers Head Start. They are as follows:
Washington County: 288
Johnson County: 50
Glascock County: 17
Wilkes County: 34
A total of 388 children and families are being served by our Head Start program.
All local newspapers are recording the media advisory with photos.
Macon - WGXA-FOX News Central was present and filmed the activity.
